Paying for the Big Jobs
The biggest plumbing jobs — a whole-home repiping job, a sewer line replacement, a water heater replacement — almost always fail without warning. There is no time to save up. This page explains your payment options plainly so you can decide under pressure.
Before talking about payment, settle the scope. Sometimes the right move is to stop the emergency now and plan the full replacement later. Sometimes doing the full fix once is cheaper than paying for the same emergency twice. We will give you both scopes in writing, separately priced, so the decision is yours.
| Path | Speed | Trade-off to know |
|---|---|---|
| Contractor-arranged financing | Can be applied for alongside the estimate | Terms set by the lender; ask about the rate after any promo period |
| Bank / credit-union personal loan | Slower; application through your lender | Unsecured; approval and timing are the lender’s |
| Home-equity loan / line of credit | Slowest; secured by your home | Suits large projects; your home is the collateral |
| Credit card | Fastest | Convenient for small jobs; watch the interest cost on large ones |
| Homeowners insurance | Claim-dependent | May cover sudden accidental damage; typically not age, wear, or gradual leaks — check your policy |

In many cases, yes — contractor-arranged financing can often be applied for alongside the estimate, so the work is not delayed. Approval is subject to the lender, and timing depends on the lender, not on us. Call for current details.
Contractor financing is arranged at the time of the estimate and the lender typically pays the contractor directly. A personal loan comes from a bank or credit union, is unsecured, and can take longer. A home-equity loan or line of credit is secured by your home and suits larger projects, but carries collateral risk. Each has a different speed, cost, and risk trade-off.
All four. Ask what the rate becomes after any promotional or deferred-interest period ends, what fees apply, what the total payoff amount will be — not just the monthly payment — and what the payoff timeline looks like. Get the written scope and the written financing terms before work starts.
It depends on your policy. Public guides note that sudden accidental damage may be covered while age, wear, and gradual leaks typically are not. Check your own policy and talk to your insurer — we cannot state what your coverage includes.
Yes. A common path is to fix the emergency now and plan the larger replacement later. We will give you a written scope for each part so you can decide without pressure.
